Typically, we will start with either two treatments per week or one treatment per week, depending on how severe or challenging your symptoms are. The goal is that over time, we
will decrease the frequency of treatments, but when we are first starting out it is important for you to receive acupuncture treatments frequently enough that you continue to improve. If your treatments aren't close enough together, you may notice the initial symptoms returning, bringing you back to square one. That would be counterproductive, wouldn't it? That's why it's important that I see you frequently enough that your symptoms disappear and don't return, giving your body a chance to heal sufficiently.
You can never have acupuncture treatments too close together, but you can have them too far apart.
Over time, we WILL space your treatments out further and further. If you start at once per week, and get to a place where your symptoms aren't returning between treatments, we will begin to schedule you once every other week. If your symptoms don't return between these appointments, we will begin to schedule you for your maintenance treatment every month. I even have some patients that decide they want to continue once per week because they feel their best at this schedule.
All of my patients receive maintenance treatments monthly to help them retain their results and address any new issues that may pop up.
One of the main objections that I hear is "I don't see my doctor once per week, why do I need to see you once per week?" My answer to that is, when you go to the doctor, they usually prescribe a medication that you have to take everyday right? Well, if you're taking a daily medication, your doctor is treating you EVERY DAY! They are treating you more regularly than you thought, even if it's not in person! With acupuncture, since I must be physically present to treat you, it's often not possible that I can see you every day, but once or twice a week at the beginning should be sufficient for you to see great results.
